Welcome to History with Mr. Bunch!

About Mr. Bunch
I'm proud and excited to be part of the Combs family and am looking forward to meeting all my old and new students this year!   A long long time ago in a galaxy not far away I graduated from  Marcos de Niza High School in Tempe.  I proudly served in the United the Sates Army before graduating from ASU with a degree in Criminal Science and a minor in History, Go Devils!  I received my Teaching Certificate from Rio Salado College.  I'm married and have two beautiful grown children.  I love History, motorcycles and the outdoors.  I have the pleasure of teaching both US History and APUSH this year.  Go Coyotes!
US History
This course provides a one-year survey of American History from North America before Columbus, the Colonial Period and the American Revolution to the present day, with an emphasis on critical thinking skills..  Using the textbook, primary documents and current events, students learn about the various political, social, religious, and economic developments that have shaped and continue to shape the United States.  Group projects, primary/secondary sources and critical thinking are emphasized as integral ways of understanding how the past relates to the present and future.
Advanced Placement United States History is designed to give students a thorough understanding of United States History, requiring students to master historical and analytic skills, including chronological and spatial thinking, historical research, and historical interpretation. The class strives to prepare students to assess historical materials, evaluate relevance and reliability, and deal critically with problems and materials in United States History. The course is equivalent to a full-year introductory college class, thus preparing students for intermediate and advanced college courses. Students have an opportunity to demonstrate content mastery by taking the AP Exam in May.  All students enrolled in this course are required to take the Advanced Placement exam.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as a educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are four elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people (4) prepareing students to become critical thinkers and concerned citizens.
