Hello everyone! First things first - My name is Shelby Brown, and I am truly grateful to be your science teacher here at Combs High School. Since I was raised in Queen Creek, AZ, it's exciting to be working near to where I grew up. I have a dog named Oakley who LOVES going on adventures with me. In my spare time I enjoy playing video games, drawing, writing, crafting, and I recently got really into cooking.
I am so grateful to have, what I believe to be, the best job in the world. I am thrilled to be able to work with you, and get to know each and every one of you better.
I believe that all students have the right to learn in an environment that is physically, mentally, and emotionally stimulating to them. I will assist my students to become independent thinkers, advocate for themselves, embrace the differences of others, and be able to freely express themselves.
At the end of the year, I want students to walk away not just with the necessary content knowledge to move forward, but with a confidence and sense of accomplishment that will empower them to be successful in the future.
Educational Background and Experience
I attended Chandler-Gilbert Community College, but I didn't actually plan on becoming a teacher until after I received my Associate's Liberal Arts degree. At that time, I was studying to be a Dietitian, but then quickly realized teaching was my calling. So I applied for Northern Arizona University, where I completed dual degrees in both Biology and Secondary Education in Biology under the Robert Noyce Teaching Scholarship. I've taught in both the high school and middle school settings (Biology, Engineering, & Integrated Science).
